Description

Hoon Ridge is a small country house dating from 1907. It is built of brick, with a pebble-dashed finish and a plain tile hipped roof. A bell cant is present with a deep overhang, and one tiled gable end is visible at the rear. The house features tall moulded brick stacks, including a ridge stack, a gable stack, three lateral stacks, and one within the roof pitch.

The house has two storeys with attics, and an irregular H-plan. The south elevation is almost symmetrical, with five bays and a projecting two-storey central porch, and projecting end bays. The lower half of the porch bay is in timber, designed in a Tudor style, and contains double plank doors with an overlight and Tudor arch. The side walls incorporate pseudo-timber framing and turned balusters above, flanked by five-light wooden casement windows with a transom and leaded lights. A projecting outer bay to the left has a similar four-light window, while a projecting bay to the right features a seven-light bow window under a jettied upper floor. The upper floor windows, from left to right, include a four-light window with a transom, a three-light window, a four-light window with a transom, a five-light window, and a four-light window with a transom. Two three-light roof dormers are above. The west elevation has a tall, gabled, two-storey entrance porch resembling that on the south front, bearing the date 1907 in a cartouche within the gable; it also features four-light windows with transoms to the left.

Inside, a full-height staircase hall is located at the rear, which houses an early 18th century style open well staircase with carved tread ends and three turned balusters per tread. Fireplaces generally have tiled surrounds with plain, bolection-moulded stone or wooden surrounds. Art Nouveau detailing is present, alongside substantial oak joinery, moulded beams, and panelled doors with brass fitments.
