Description
Two houses, numbers 29 and 31, were built around 1820 and the mid-19th century as part of the Moravian Settlement. They are constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings, featuring slate roofs and dentilled eaves bands. Number 29, the later house, has brick gable stacks, while number 31 has a central brick ridge stack and a gable stack to the south.
Both houses are three storeys high and have three bays each. Number 29 has a central brick porch with a semi-circular headed stone doorcase, a moulded cornice, a blocking course above, a panelled door, and a plain fanlight. The ground floor has plain sash windows beneath wedge lintels; the first floor has three similar windows; and the top floor has smaller windows without lintels. A doorcase leading into number 31 is located at the far south of the ground floor but is partially obscured by a large 20th-century glass porch. This doorcase features a rusticated wedge lintel with a double keystone and a panelled door with a divided overlight.
Number 31, the earlier house, has three windows on the ground floor, all under rusticated lintels with double keystones. The two southern windows have plain sashes, while the northern window has a glazing bar sash, largely hidden by the glazed porch. The first floor has three plain sashes, and the second floor has three smaller sashes with flat timber lintels, likely added later. A gauged brick segmental archway with a stone keyblock runs through the building beneath the window on the south end. The structures are included on the list for their group value.
