24 And 26, Frome Road

Two houses, numbers 24 and 26 Frome Road, were built in 1763 and were originally an inn. They are constructed of random rubble with an ashlar plinth, chamfered ashlar quoins on the left side and a quoin band on the right. The houses have a moulded stone eaves cornice, removed from number 26, and a double-Roman tile roof with a coped verge on the left side. There are three 20th-century brick stacks.

The facades have a classically influenced asymmetrical design. The houses are two storeys and a basement, with three bays on the left (number 24) and three bays on the right (number 26). They feature late 19th-century four-light sash windows in elaborately moulded stone architraves, each with a flat entablature and moulded cornice above. On the ground floor of number 26, the left side has a late 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped slate roof, while the right side has paired sash windows under a concrete lintel, retaining an 18th-century cornice. Openings in the right bay of number 24 are set within brick surrounds with a wide relieving arch over the ground floor.

There are three door openings. The door to number 24 is in a plain stone surround with a moulded cornice over and a late 19th-century half-glazed door. Number 26 has a similar door opening with an early 19th-century six-panel door, the top two panels glazed. There is a further door opening to the right, in a brick surround, with a late 19th-century four-panel door.
