Description
Number 52 and 52A on Bridlesmith Gate is a pair of houses that have been converted into a shop and offices. They date from around 1700, possibly incorporating parts of an earlier structure, and were restored around 1975. The buildings are constructed of brick with a stucco front, and the roof is not visible. They rise three storeys plus attics and feature a four-window range.
On the ground floor, to the right, there is a late 20th-century shopfront with a central door flanked by brick piers and single windows. To the left is a door followed by a wide framed door leading to a side entry. The upper two floors each have four glazing bar sash windows. Above these, there are two dormers set through the eaves, each with coped gables and renewed two-light casements. The interior is reputed to contain part of an early 18th-century staircase.
