Description

This is a group of late 18th-century houses, now shops and a cafe, located on Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham. The building has been altered in the 19th century and late 20th century. The front elevation is rendered and colourwashed with a hipped slate roof and two brick ridge stacks. There is a wooden gutter and eaves detail. Most of the windows are original glazing bar sashes. The building is three and four storeys high and has a three-by-six window frontage. The ground floor features a plate glass window on the left, flanked by round-arched ashlar doorcases. To the right are two replica shopfronts from the mid-19th century. Above the ground floor are three tripartite sashes, and above those are three sashes on each floor, with the second-floor sashes being smaller. The left return, facing Byard Lane, features three 20th-century shop windows on the right. Above are a sash window flanked by a smaller window, then a sash window flanked by blank panels, and finally three blank panels. A separate block to the left, three storeys high, has an early 19th-century wooden shopfront under a cornice. A recessed bow window is flanked to the left by a renewed door and overlight. To the right of the bow window are a small shop window flanked by doors with overlights. Above the shopfront are three sashes, two of which are plain, and above those are three glazing bar sashes.
