Description
15 Middle Pavement is a building that originally served as shops and offices, now functioning solely as offices. It was constructed around 1900 and restored in the late 20th century. The building features a combination of ashlar and red brick, with ashlar dressings and a slate mansard roof topped with a conical ventilator, showcasing a Free Baroque style.
The structure has a plinth, a rusticated ground floor, and quoins, along with a wooden modillion cornice and coped gables. It stands three storeys high with attics and has a symmetrical facade with seven window ranges. The first and second floors are distinguished by canted oriel windows supported by scroll brackets, alternating with single plain sash windows. The first-floor windows have segmental heads, while the attics feature three canted flat-roofed bay windows with double and triple glazing bar casements.
On the ground floor, there is a round-arched arcade with voussoirs, where the outer arches contain late 20th-century glazed doors and cross casements, along with original wrought-iron window guards. The central entrance is also round-arched and includes original wrought-iron gates and a pediment supported by brackets.
