Description
No. 1 Middle Pavement is a town house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red brick, with a painted ground floor and a slate-hung left return, featuring ashlar dressings. The roof is not visible due to a rebuilt brick parapet. The structure has four storeys and a two-window range. A canted round-arched wooden oriel window on brackets, with glazing bar sashes, is present. Above this, on each floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows with brick flat arches. The ground floor features a rusticated doorcase with a double keystone to the left, which contains a mid-20th century door and overlight. To the right, there is a 20th-century plate glass shop window.
