Description
No. 51 Bridle Smith Gate is a house and shop, now used as offices, dating from the early 19th century. It has been restored and altered in the late 20th century. The exterior features renewed roughcast over brick, a hipped slate roof, and a brick ridge stack. There is a renewed wooden eaves cornice supported by paired brackets. The building has four storeys and a three-window range, with a rounded front due to its corner location.
On the first and second floors, there are three 16-pane sash windows, while above them are three 8-pane sash windows. The central canted wooden shopfront is mostly original, featuring a splayed central entrance flanked by plate glass windows, all beneath a fretwork fascia cornice supported by elaborate brackets. On each side of the shopfront, there is a reglazed window with a roundel above, and to the left, a doorway that has been altered to a window.
