Description
48 and 50 Bridle Smith Gate are two houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from the early 18th century and were altered in the 19th century, with restoration occurring in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick with brick dressings, and while the roof is not visible, there is a renewed coped parapet and coped gables, along with a rebuilt right gable and buttresses. The structures stand three storeys tall and feature a four-window range of glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches. The ground floor has two late 19th-century wooden shopfronts that include side doors, single plate glass windows, and shaped fascia boards. To the right, there is an incomplete rusticated pilaster. Inside, there is a restored wooden dogleg stair from the early 18th century, which has turned balusters.
