Description
No. 11 Bridle Smith Gate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 16th century, with a rear wing added in the 18th century and various alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building features timber-framing and brickwork, with a rendered front and a plain tile roof. The first floor jetties out on 19th-century brackets, and there is a jettied gabled attic with late 19th-century bargeboards. The structure has three storeys plus attics and a two-window range of 19th-century two-light casements. Above this, there is a single smaller window, and above that, a renewed three-light Yorkshire sash. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shopfront. Inside, the first floor has close studded side walls with arch braces and four bay posts, along with a much altered single purlin roof. The rear wing contains a similar 18th-century roof.
