Description

The Midland Bank is a bank building constructed between 1896 and 1897 by Robert Evans & Son of Nottingham, with an extension added in 1920-21 that matches the original style. The building is made of ashlar, featuring a pink granite basement and ground floor, with a roof that is not visible behind a balustrade. It showcases an Italian Renaissance style with a plinth, sill bands, and a dentillated main cornice. The structure has three storeys and a seven-window range of two-light plain sashes that include pediments and stone mullions. Above these are seven smaller windows with cornices. The ground floor features five large windows separated by paired Doric pilasters and is flanked by eight-panel double doors, with the right pair having a large overlight.

Inside, the bank retains an original enriched panelled plaster ceiling with moulded cross beams and cornice, supported by wooden Doric columns.
