Description

The Former Reform Club is an office building located at 16 Victoria Street in Nottingham. It was built in 1870 by Robert Evans for the Imperial Fire & Life Insurance Company and was altered for use as the Reform Club in 1913 by William Beedham Starr. The building is designed in the French-Italian Renaissance style and is constructed of ashlar with a Portland stone balustrade and a slate mansard roof featuring two stylised gable stacks.

The structure has a plinth and cornices on each floor, with the main cornice supported by brackets. It stands three storeys tall, plus attics, and has a five-window range. The central entrance bay projects and includes a first-floor balcony supported by brackets, along with a triple round-arched window. On either side of this bay are single windows, and further out are projecting end bays that also feature triple windows. The upper floors have similar flat-headed windows, and above this is a central pavilion with two windows, vertical panels, a cornice, a balustrade, and a truncated pyramidal slate roof. Each side of the pavilion has three pedimented dormers.

The ground floor is divided by pilasters and features pink granite dressings. The central round-arched doorway is flanked by sidelights and shafts, with single flat-headed windows on either side, followed by double windows with central shafts.
