Description

Units 1 and 2, formerly known as the Dog and Bear Public House, are located at No. 6 Bridle Smith Gate in Nottingham. This building, constructed between 1874 and 1876 by John Collyer of Nottingham, has been converted into two shops in 1993. The exterior features a ground floor made of ashlar stone that is painted and rock-faced, with ashlar dressings. The roof is not visible, but there are two gable and one ridge brick stacks. The building is designed in the Italianate style, showcasing a plinth, a rusticated ground floor, quoins, a first-floor band, and both impost and sill bands, along with an eaves cornice.

The windows are primarily original casements and plain sashes. The structure is three storeys high with a three-window range. The ground floor includes five round-arched openings that feature a foliage impost band and hood moulds. In the fourth bay, there are renewed panelled double doors with a fanlight, while the other bays contain two-light windows with wooden mullions and fanlights. Above these, there are three round-arched windows with two lights, each adorned with miniature stone balconies and cast-iron crests. The uppermost section has three smaller two-light windows with shaped heads and hood moulds. The interior has been largely remodelled in the late 20th century.
