Description

No. 2 Church Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features rusticated granite ashlar piers flanking the ground floor. The building has chamfered granite rustications used as quoins, sills, jambs, and shallow segmental arches. The roof is a grouted scantle slate hipped roof with projecting eaves, and it has cast-iron ogee gutters. The building has a deep plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window range. The second floor has original 9-pane hornless sashes in square openings, while the first floor features tall original 12-pane hornless sashes. The ground floor has a nearly full-width mid-20th century shop front with a doorway on the left and an opening on the right. The interior has been altered in the 20th century but retains the original staircase at the rear.
