Description

The gun from HMS Anson is located in the central position behind the Guildhall in Helston. It dates to around 1800 and comes from the warship HMS Anson, which was wrecked on Loe Bar, Porthleven on December 29, 1807. The gun is now mounted on a replica wooden gun carriage that was constructed by HMS Seahawk, the Royal Naval Air Station at Culdrose, Helston. This gun was donated in November 1965 by the descendants of Henry Trengrouse, who invented the Rocket Life Saving Apparatus. His grave is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Michael.
