Description

Nos. 6 and 8, including the warehouse to the rear, is a town house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century, with a front that was remodeled in the late 19th century. The building features a stuccoed front with a parapet cornice and a steep asbestos slate roof that is hipped on the right. It has a deep plan, arranged around two small courtyards at the rear, and is two storeys high, with a basement on the right, making an overall four-window range.

On the right side, there is a group of three early 19th century hornless sash windows with glazing bars, situated above an early 20th century altered transomed shop front that has older granite ashlar stall risers. To the left of the shop front, there is a house doorway featuring an 18th or early 19th century six-panel door with a plain overlight. At the far left, a late 19th century six-pane canted oriel window with opening three-pane sidelights is located above a 20th century plate-glass window.

The rear of the building includes a parallel-roofed warehouse with loading doorways facing the lane. Within the left-hand courtyard, the rear wall of the front range has an early 18th century three-light casement window with very thick glazing bars, and there is a similar one-light window on the right of the central linking wing, along with some mid-19th century sashes that have glazing bars.

Inside, the left-hand room (No. 6) features an early to mid-19th century moulded ceiling cornice, an early 19th century moulded window architrave with corner blocks and roundels, an 18th century dogleg staircase, and some 18th century panelled doors.
