Town house or merchant's house with later shop. C16 or C17 core behind a C18 or C18 remodelled front. Stucco on probable rubble; low-pitched slate roof behind parapet with entablature with lower band; rendered end stacks. Deep plan including rear wing. 2 storeys; 3-window range. C18 or early C19 12-pane hornless sashes to 1st floor, late C19 6-pane horned sash to ground-floor left. C20 entablature with fascia over central chamfered doorway with 6-panel door and large late C19 6-pane horned sash as shop window on the right. Rear wing has remains of C16 or C17 dripmould set into wall now blocked by late C18 or early C19 16-pane hornless sash. INTERIOR: retains C17 moulded muntins from former screen to right of house and much evidence of C17 features in the front room of the rear wing including an altered lateral fireplace, some heavy cross beams and a window bay with many alterations including some re-use of C17 window fragments. Other rooms and roof structure not inspected but likely to be of interest. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 684).
