Description
No. 31 High Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from around 1600, with an early 19th-century façade. The building features a timber-frame structure with stucco cladding and a slate roof. It stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window arrangement. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front. The first floor includes early 19th-century canted oriel windows with 2:4:2-pane horned sashes, while the second floor has 18th-century windows with 18-pane horizontally sliding sashes. At the rear, there is a 19th-century wing. Inside, the former passageway retains an original oak-framed doorway and a curved bracket that supported a jettied second floor. The second floor is noted to have a hidden passage around the chimney.
