Description

This is a town house, originally dating from circa 1600, located on the High Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The front of the building was rebuilt in the 1900s, replacing an earlier front from the 1800s. The building has a timber-frame construction with plaster infill and a tile roof, featuring a brick end stack. It is two storeys high, with a symmetrical two-window facade. The upper level has a jettied attic with two gables. A 20th-century shop front is present, alongside a side entrance on the left-hand side. The first floor has wooden oriels with ovolo-mullions and transoms, and projecting cross-mullioned windows in the attic, all with leaded glazing. The timber framing displays ovolo-moulded members. A large brick rear wing, known as Mercer's Croft, was constructed in the mid to late 19th century and incorporates casement windows.
