Description
No. 36 High Street is a town house that has been converted into a restaurant and dwelling. It dates from around 1600 but was refronted in either 1729 or 1758. The building features a timber frame with a brick front and a parapeted roof that has brick end stacks, showcasing a Georgian style. It stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The deep panelled parapet is topped with ashlar coping, and there is a 20th-century shop front. The upper floors have windows with sills and rubbed brick flat arches above 12-pane sash windows. The rear of the building is noted to have two gables and exposed timber framing.
Inside, the property is recorded to have close-studded framing, a good stone fireplace with a four-centred arch and moulded jambs, and two first-floor rooms featuring late 16th-century panelling along with frieze panels from the early 18th century.
