Description
2 and 3 High Street is a town house that has been converted into shops. It likely dates from the 17th century but was refronted between 1750 and 1785, with early 19th-century shop fronts added later. The building features some timber framing with roughcast and a stucco front, topped with a tile roof. It stands three storeys high and has a four-window range. The facade is enhanced by three pilasters and plat bands above the first floor, with a plain parapet at the top. The shop fronts include pilasters with Composite capitals and entablatures; the left shop front has been altered, while the right features a bay window with a balustraded apron and rounded angles, along with an entablature that displays the name "LOGGIN." The entrance on the left has a half-glazed door and a painted glass panel above it, also with the name "LOGGIN/FAMILY CHYMIST." The upper floors have windows with sills and leaded cross-casements. The plat band bears the inscription "DISPENSING CHYMIST." Inside, No. 3 has an angle fireplace with flanking niches that have round heads cut in timber lintels, which were covered over in 1991, along with some exposed beams. Historical records indicate that leases for the property date back to 1610.
