Description
19 and 20 Wood Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and a refronting around 1790. The building is constructed of brick featuring buff headers, with some stucco and internal timber framing, and has a tiled roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a two-window range. The top features a modillioned brick cornice. The shop front, added in 1949, includes two entrances and a side entrance to the upper floors. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century canted bay windows with cornices above plate glass horned sashes, flanking a blind window that has a rusticated wedge lintel and key. The attic contains two hipped dormers with plate glass horned sashes. The rear of the building has a gabled wing and later additions. Inside, some roof trusses are exposed and have been cut through for doorways. The building is documented back to 1737.
