Description

A 17th-century town house, later altered in the 19th century and now used as a shop, is located on Wood Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The building is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill and has a renewed tile roof with brick stacks at the rear. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has a two-window front. The shop front, dating from the early 20th century, features a recessed central door with slender colonnettes bordering the windows, and a top frieze and cornice. To the left of the door is a panel above a pair of 3-flush-panel doors. The first floor has two 19th-century canted bay windows, each with a cornice and 2:4:2-pane horned sash windows. The attic has two gable dormers with two-light casements. Exposed timber framing on the first floor is square, with jowled end posts. The rear elevation is of brick, with a wing extending from it. Plastered-over timber framing is present on the right return, along with an attic window. The title deeds date back to 1660. The interior includes chamfered beams, including large, broadly-chamfered beams and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
