Description
44 and 44A Wood Street is a town house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from around 1760 and was altered and extended in the 1930s. The building is constructed of brick with buff headers and features ashlar dressings, topped with a hipped tile roof. It is designed in the Georgian style and stands two storeys high with an attic, originally featuring a five-window range that has been extended to the left to create an eight-window range. The first floor has brick lintel bands and a top timber cornice, with mid to late 20th-century shop fronts below. The first floor windows have moulded sills and rubbed brick flat arches with keys above 12-pane horned sashes that have wide frames. There are five gabled dormers with two-light casements, two of which have leaded glazing and three with small-paned glazing. A similar range from the 1930s on Henley Street is not included in this listing.
