Description
No. 34 Rother Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with brick infill set on a rubble plinth, and it has a brick front with a tiled roof. It stands two stories tall and has a single-window range. At the top, there is a modillioned brick cornice. The entrance is located to the right and has a 20th-century door. The ground floor window features a 20th-century oriel, while the first floor has a window with a 20th-century three-light casement. The left side of the building displays exposed square framing, including a tie beam and collar truss with a yoke. There is also a 20th-century gabled projection with a bay window and canopy, supported by weatherboarded gable on timber posts. At the rear, there is a 20th-century rebuilt gabled wing, which is timber-framed with brick infill and a brick rear wall. This section is single storey with an attic and features gabled dormers.
