Description
Robert House is a town house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It was built around 1740 and altered in 1861. The building features colourwashed brick with ashlar dressings and has a tile roof with a brick end stack and a large rear stack. It is designed in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and has a two-window range.
The top of the building is adorned with a modillioned timber cornice. The ground floor has an early 20th-century shop front that includes a central recessed entrance with a glazed door, along with a top frieze and cornice that extends over the entrance to the left. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century canted bay windows, each with top friezes and cornices, and they contain two:four:two-pane sash windows. The attic features a gabled dormer with a two-light casement window.
Additionally, four rubbed brick flat arches with keys for earlier sashes can be seen on the first floor. The rear of the building has two gabled wings, with the left wing being longer and featuring a large stack positioned to the left of the ridge.
