Description
Shackleton Hall is a late 19th-century building that serves as shops and offices. It is constructed of ashlar with slate roofs and stands three storeys tall. The ground floor features modern shops beneath an original moulded stone cornice supported by scrolled brackets. The upper floors are divided into two blocks. The westerly block has eight bays that create a continuous round-arched arcade with moulded voussoirs and keystones on the first floor. The second floor showcases tall casement windows with chamfered surrounds, with the middle four windows slightly projecting forward on a moulded corbel, topped by a prominent shaped and pedimented gable above a balustraded parapet. The easterly block consists of five bays, with the central bay also projecting slightly and featuring a segmented pediment above the parapet. The windows in this bay are tripartite sashes, with the second-floor window having a semi-circular tympanum that extends upwards into the dormer. The remaining windows are sashes with plain surrounds.
