Description
The Town Hall, built in 1893 by A E Waterhouse, is a two-storey building constructed of ashlar. It features a central clock tower that rises in six stages, with a three-light oriel window in the second stage and two lancet windows. The clock faces are set in ogee openings on the fourth stage, while the belfry stage has a triple window with Gothic heads. The roof is pyramidal, and there are two two-light windows on each side of the tower, with Gothic heads on the first floor and square-headed windows on the ground floor. A quatrefoil parapet adorns the top, and chimneys rise from panelled gablets in the middle of each wing. The steep slate roof complements the overall design, and the entrance features fielded panel double doors within a Gothic arch, supported by triple grey granite colonnettes.
