GV II

Pair of houses, now shops, spanning entrance to Greyhound Street. Early C18, altered late C19 and mid C20. Red brick, partly painted, with painted ashlar and stucco dressings and plain tile and artificial slate roofs with a coped gable and a gable stack. 4 storeys; 4 window range. Central bay has a round-arched niche with swan-neck pediment, and above it, a blind panel with frieze and wavy cornice. Above again, a blank roundel with 4 keystones. Left bay has first and second floor bands, and 2 plain sashes on each floor, with keystones. Second floor windows restored late C20. Altered right bay has a canted wooden bay window, 3 storeys, with dentillated cornice. Stucco panel inscribed "Oriel Chambers" between second and third floors. Ground floor arcade has 2 stucco Doric columns to left and 2 altered columns to right. Late C20 shopfronts. INTERIOR has a wooden dogleg stair with turned balusters and ramped handrail.
