Description

Oriel Chambers is a pair of houses that have been converted into shops, located on Long Row in Nottingham. They were built in the early 18th century and have undergone alterations in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, which is partly painted, and features painted ashlar and stucco dressings. The roofs are made of plain tiles and artificial slate, with a coped gable and a gable stack.

The structure has four storeys and a four-window range. The central bay includes a round-arched niche topped with a swan-neck pediment, and above this, there is a blind panel with a frieze and wavy cornice. Further up, there is a blank roundel adorned with four keystones. The left bay features first and second floor bands, with two plain sash windows on each floor, also with keystones. The second floor windows were restored in the late 20th century. The right bay has been altered and includes a canted wooden bay window that rises three storeys and has a dentillated cornice. Between the second and third floors, there is a stucco panel inscribed with "Oriel Chambers."

The ground floor arcade is supported by two stucco Doric columns on the left and two altered columns on the right, with late 20th-century shopfronts. Inside, there is a wooden dogleg stair with turned balusters and a ramped handrail.
