Description
This is a shop and hairdressing salon dating from around 1900, built in a French Renaissance Revival style. The building is constructed of ashlar and red brick, with ashlar detailing, and has a steeply pitched Westmorland slate hipped roof. It is three storeys high plus attics, and features five windows arranged in a 1:3:1 layout. A recessed tripartite window with stone mullions is centrally placed on the first floor, flanked by single windows with pilasters, all beneath a deep cornice. Above this, a 16-pane sash window is flanked by two 10-pane sash windows. On each side of the building is a two-story turret with a single window on each floor and a conical roof. A central through-eaves dormer sits above the turrets, decorated with pilasters, a cornice, and a crest. The ground floor features a two-column arcade constructed with polished granite, and contains shopfronts installed in the late 20th century.
