Description

This building consists of a pair of houses that have been converted into two shops. They date from the early 18th century but have earlier origins. The houses were extended and remodeled in the late 18th century and early 19th century, with 20th-century shopfronts added. The exterior features painted brick, a timber doorcase, and an eaves cornice. The roof is made of pantiles with brick coping and stacks.

The structure has three storeys. Number 3 has a one-window front, while numbers 4 and 4A have a three-window front. The shopfronts are positioned on either side of a round-arched doorcase that has plain pilasters, a fluted impost band, and a recessed door with six raised panels beneath a blocked radial fanlight. The first and second-floor windows of numbers 4 and 4A are 12-pane sashes, while number 3 has 16-pane sashes. All windows have painted sills and flat arches made of orange rubbed brick, with the second-floor arches painted. There is a three-course raised band of brick beneath the second floor, and a fluted inverted bell rainwater head is located to the right of the centre of the moulded modillion cornice. The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate that remnants of the roof of an earlier house can be found in the party wall.
