Description
Nos. 3, 4, and 5 Shambles are a pair of houses with shops, built in the early 19th century and modernised around 1970. They are constructed from orange-grey brick in Flemish bond, featuring a timber shopfront and guttering, with a pantile roof.
The exterior has a three-storey, two-window front. The shopfronts are framed by sunk-panel pilasters and topped with a moulded cornice and frieze that includes angle blocks. The shops feature small-pane bow windows and part-glazed doors, which are situated beneath tall six-pane overlights. In the centre, there is a door with six sunk panels and a grilled overlight above. The first floor has twelve-pane sash windows, while the second floor has squat six-pane sashes, all with painted sills and cambered arches made of orange gauged brick. The box guttering is supported by paired modillions. The interior has not been inspected.
