Description
No. 2 Shambles is a house that dates back to the early 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century, a mid-19th century shopfront, and modern updates from around 1970. The building features painted brick in Flemish bond, a timber shopfront, and a moulded modillion eaves cornice, topped with a pantile roof.
The exterior has three storeys and a one-window front. The shopfront is framed by Doric pilasters, with moulded imposts, a plain frieze, and a cornice. The entrance has doors with six sunk panels and divided overlights, flanking a small-pane shop window set over a brick riser. The upper floors have tripartite windows, with 8:12:8-pane sashes on the first floor and 4:12:4-pane sashes on the second floor, both beneath an original flat arch made of gauged brick, which is now painted. The interior has not been inspected.
