Description
This is a late 19th-century house with a shop front. It is located on Colliergate, York. The front of the building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with raised brick quoins and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The returns show orange-cream mottled brick in an English garden-wall bond. The roof is slate, with brick stacks.
The building is three storeys high with an attic, and has a single-window front. The shop front is framed by sunk-panel pilasters, with a plain fascia and dentil cornice, topped by elaborate carved console brackets capped with pointed oviform finials. It features plate glass windows over a panelled riser, with a curved corner leading to a recessed four-panel door. A replacement door provides access to the shop on the left side of the inner lobby. A glazed wall cabinet is present in the lobby. The first-floor window is a three-light elliptical bay with a single pane of glass between Composite colonnette mullions, beneath a prominent moulded dentil cornice. The second floor has two single-pane sash windows with painted stone sills and segmental arches. A segment-gabled dormer contains a single-pane sash window to the attic. The interior was not inspected. The building is included for its group value with other buildings on Colliergate.
