Description
No. 11 Colliergate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century or earlier and underwent alterations in the early 18th century. The building was refronted around 1800 and features a mid-19th century shopfront, with further modifications made in the 20th century. The structure has a timber frame that is encased in incised stucco at the front and rendered at the rear, topped with a pantile roof that is concealed by a parapet.
The exterior showcases a three-storey, one-window front. The shop window is a three-light bow design with moulded mullions, framed by plain pilasters, and there is a glazed and panelled shop door to the left. The upper storey windows are 12-pane sashes, with pairs on the first floor. A plain raised band runs beneath the parapet, and there is a fluted bowl rainwater head at the right end. The left gable of the roof retains an exposed collar truss.
Inside, the first floor of the rear block reveals posts with tapered heads, and all floors feature exposed joists, with those in the second-floor front room being moulded. The first-floor front room has a moulded cornice, while the second-floor front room retains a door with six fielded panels and a blocked corner fireplace.
