Regency House Hotel And Attached Basements And Railings (Brunel Terrace)

This is a terrace of five houses, now a hotel, bar, and offices, located on Derby Road in Nottingham. Constructed around 1850, the building has been altered in the mid and late 20th century. It is built of stucco with hipped slate roofs and features four corniced ridge stacks. The basement retaining wall is of rock-faced stone. The design is of the Italianate style, incorporating a plinth, a first-floor sill band, a moulded eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The building is three storeys plus a basement, originally featuring an eight-window front, with projecting end bays designed for symmetry. Windows are plain sashes. The central three bays have round-arched doorways with Ionic columns and sham balconies, as well as three canted bay windows with cornices. Above the doorways, six windows are topped with segmental pediments on brackets. Further above, six smaller windows have moulded surrounds. The end bays share a similar window arrangement, with a bay window on the ground floor. The side returns retain symmetrical fronts with three windows, and central doorcases under cornices, flanked by flat-headed windows. Above, the fenestration mirrors that of the main front. The basement retaining wall has an incomplete wrought-iron railing. The street frontage to the right features a round-headed door flanked by windows, alongside a gateway and steps flanked by square piers. To the left is a similar gateway between garage doors, followed by a rounded corner with four garage doors.
