Description
Numbers 145 and 147 are a pair of houses, now used as offices, with attached railings. They were built around 1830, likely by PF Robinson for the 4th Duke of Newcastle. The buildings have been altered and restored in the mid and late 20th century. They are constructed of stucco with a slate roof, featuring a single ridge and side wall stacks, and a brick outer wall to the basement. The ground floor is rusticated, with a first-floor sill band, eaves cornice, and a coped parapet. The windows mostly retain their original glazing bar sashes. The structure has three storeys plus a basement and attics, with a four-window range. There are two four-panel doors with overlights and 16-pane sashes on the ground floor. Above these are tall sashes with cornices, and smaller windows with moulded surrounds on the upper level, two of which have been reglazed. The attics feature four casement windows. The basement has a late 20th-century outer wall with two louvred openings. Outside, there is a cast-iron area railing for No. 147.
