Description
The Cruse monument, located approximately 2 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael and Our Lady, is a raised monumental slab dating from around 1741. It commemorates Margarate Cruse, the wife of Francis Cruse, who died in 1741. The monument is made of sandstone and features a low scrolled pedestal at each end. The surface is decorated with an incised round-arched head, complete with a keystone, and has a raised decorated initial "H". Additional inscriptions commemorate Elizabeth Cruse, the second wife of Francis Cruse, who died in 1761; Francis Cruse, who died in 1770; and John, the son of John and Ann Cruse, who died in 1747 at the age of 2 weeks.
