Description
There are two chest tombs located in the churchyard to the south of the Church of St Michael, dating from the late 18th century.
The first, known as the Crocker monument, is situated about 6 meters south of the nave. It is made of Ham stone and features a moulded plinth on a stepped base, with one fielded panel on each face and three-panel pilasters on the flanks. The top is hipped with moulded coving and rounded leading edges. This tomb commemorates Betty, the wife of George Crocker, who died in 1794, along with others.
The second tomb is an unidentified monument positioned against the south wall of the nave. Also constructed from Ham stone, it has a moulded plinth and one fielded panel on each face, with two-panel pilasters on the flanks. Its shallow hipped top is similarly adorned with moulded coving and rounded leading edges. The inscriptions on this tomb are worn and not readable.
