Description
The Kennels in Nostell Priory Estate yard is a building dating from around 1830. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar with ashlar dressings, featuring stone slate roofs and coped gables. The structure has a quadrangular plan and is a single storey.
On the south side, there is a low ashlar wall topped with spearhead railings and central iron gates, with high ashlar walls and coping at the ends. The east and west ranges have open-fronted sheds supported by two cast iron columns each, while the north side contains the kennels. The eastern kennel has a single door on the west front and a single shuttered window on the south side. The western kennel features a single door on the south and another door flanked by single shuttered windows on the east.
The main north range has nine openings arranged in three groups of three, with a slightly projecting central section topped by a broad pediment. Each section includes a central doorway flanked by single shuttered windows. These kennels were built as part of the estate yard for Charles W Winn (1795-1874) and provided accommodation for his pack of fox hounds.
