Description
The kennels, located on the west side of the forecourt south of the Gazebo at Clumpcliffe Farm, date back to 1708 and were likely built for the Savile family of Methley Hall, possibly by Theophilus Shelton. These kennels are one of a pair that flank the forecourt and are part of the overall design with the Gazebo. Constructed from handmade red brick in stretcher bond, they feature stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has rusticated long-and-short quoins and the side facing the forecourt, which is now covered by a later roof, has altered openings with stone architraves. The hipped roof has swept eaves over a modillioned cornice, with a small gabled dormer on each long side and at the south end. It is said that these kennels were built to house hounds.
