Description
Oulton Farmhouse, now divided into two dwellings, dates to the later 17th century and has been altered since. The farmhouse is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It is organised as a linear four-unit lobby-entry plan, with an added outshut to the rear. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, and features a plinth and a dripmould over the ground floor, which steps up at the left end. The front doorway is offset slightly to the left of centre and has a Tudor-arched moulded surround. There are four altered windows at ground floor, and an inserted doorway situated between the third and fourth bay. Four four-light chamfered mullion windows are present at first floor level. Above the doorway are two blocked two-light stairwell windows, vertically aligned. The gables have stone coping with kneelers, and there is a brick chimney on the ridge, in line with the doorway, along with gable chimneys. The rear elevation is of less architectural interest.
Inside, there are back-to-back inglenook fireplaces with timber bressumers, the one in the right-hand part being larger and including a timber heck-post. A former staircase was said to have been integral with the chimney stack, located between the two chimney stacks. Otherwise, the interior has been altered.
