Description
Royds Green Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was enlarged in the early 19th century. The front section is built of coursed squared sandstone, while the rear section is of handmade red brick. It has a 2-span stone slate roof and a double-pile plan, achieved through the addition of a rear range. The farmhouse is two storeys high and originally had two bays. The front features a plinth and two 5-light windows on the ground floor, with a doorway situated between them. Above these are two 4-light windows, all featuring recessed chamfered mullions. A large window was later inserted at the right-hand end of the ground floor. The gables are finished with handmade brick, and there is a gable chimney constructed of the same material. The right-hand gable includes a blocked narrow opening at ground floor level, a high attached screen wall, and behind this, a blocked 2-light window and a 4-pane sash window at the first floor. The rear addition is of less architectural significance. A central chimney rises in the valley between the roofs. The interior has been altered.
