Description

This is a farmbuilding and cartshed located to the north of the Old Brewhouse in the yard of Nostell Priory Estate, dating from around 1845. It is constructed from dressed sandstone with ashlar dressings and features stone slate roofs, coped pedimented gables, and a single stone stack. The building has a plinth, a first-floor band, and a moulded eave band, and it is two storeys high.

The east front has seven windows arranged in a pattern of three, two, and two, with a slightly projecting central section that is topped by a pediment. This central section includes a central doorway with an overlight, flanked by single 12-pane casements. To the left, there is a central 12-pane casement flanked by single doors with overlights, while to the right is a large segment-arched carriage opening with double plank doors. Above, there are seven 12-pane casements.

The north front features five windows arranged in a pattern of two and three, with the left section projecting slightly and topped by a pediment. This section has two 16-pane casements, while the right side has a similar window and two blind openings. Above, there are two large glazing bar casements, with two smaller blind openings to the right and a similar glazing bar casement. Attached to the right is a single-storey open cartshed supported by seven cast iron columns. At the rear, there is a brick cartshed with two cast iron columns, and workshops that include an external staircase and three workshop windows on the first floor of the south front.

These buildings are part of the estate yard of Nostell Priory, which was laid out for Charles W Winn, who lived from 1795 to 1874.
