Description
The Former Primitive Methodist School, which was used as a carpet warehouse at the time of listing, dates back to 1878. It is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh blue-slate roof. The building is single storey with a three-bay symmetrical facade. The front has a pedimented gable, with each bay marked by simple pilasters and entablatures that support semicircular arches. The outer bays contain two-light arched windows with circles above, although these are obscured by signs. The central bay features a semicircular-arched doorway with two orders and an impost. Above this doorway is a taller stilted arch with an oculus, which has the inscription "PRIMITIVE METHODIST 18 SCHOOL 78" carved into it, and is topped with a bracketed open pediment. The rear of the building has a coped gable with a ridge stack, while the left and right returns each have nine bays of two-light arched windows, similar to those at the front, recessed in arches with impost bands.
