Description

The Church of England School, built in 1869, is a school and schoolhouse located on Church Road in Aylburton. It is constructed from rock-faced sandstone rubble with pale sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof adorned with decorative barge-boards. The building is long and low, consisting of a single storey with a broad gabled return on the right and two deep wings at the back. A prominent split stack with a splayed base and a date tablet is positioned centrally.

To the left, there is a two-storey gabled wing that serves as the schoolhouse, which also has a split stack at the ridge. This wing features 2-light chamfered mullion casements beneath a small trefoil opening in the gable. Adjacent to the single-storey block on the left is a small gable over a 20th-century glazed door, which is situated under a blocked transom light. The main façade has six windows arranged in groups of two, all of which are 2-light chamfered mullion casements. The gable return on the right includes a finial and three stepped lights with glazing bars. This building remains almost unspoiled and is grouped with the Church of St Mary, which is located opposite.
