Description
Two dwellings sharing a common roof, located on the High Street in Aylburton. The buildings date to the 16th and 19th centuries. They are set back from the street. The exterior is of painted rubble with a steeply pitched roof covered in double Roman tiles. A central brick stack rises from the roof. A passage leads through to number 32. Number 34 has a cross wing with a gable facing the street, and is rendered.
Number 32 is of one-and-a-half storeys and features a small, 2-light gabled dormer window on the left side, and a 3-light 19th-century casement window set into the gable on the right, above two 2-light casement windows. A central plank and batten door is set within a broad surround. Number 34 has later 20th-century windows and a door.
The interior of number 32 retains a pair of cruck roof timbers and a single bay of wind bracing. A wide, tight-spiral wooden staircase is present, along with a large castellated bressummer built into the ground floor, against the party wall with number 34, featuring rudimentary carvings of a Tudor Rose and Fleur-de-Lis. A low plank door leads to the rear of the property. The interior of number 34 has been substantially modified.
