Description
Old Park Stables is a building that served as stables and grooms' accommodation, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features stone slate roofs. The structure consists of a central block with two hipped ends that slope into a central pedimented section of the roof, which is topped by a square wooden bell turret with a lead cupola. This central block is flanked by low wings on either side. The steep pediment has a dentilled cornice, and the modillion cornice returns to the ridge of the lower wings.
The central block displays a clock in the pediment above a two-storey front with three windows. It has two-light 19th-century casements with wooden lintels above two multi-paned pseudo-sashes. The entrance features a central six-panel fielded door within a moulded surround and pediment. Inside, there are remains of three stalls. The single-storey wings are designed differently; the left wing has two windows, a door, and one window with multi-panes, while the right wing is rendered and includes a small single casement and three segmental-headed garage doors. This building is the major remnant of the former Manor house, which has since been rebuilt further up the hill at Lydney Park.
