Description
The former stable block at Buildwas Park dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of red brick with rusticated quoins and ashlar dressings, topped by a plain tile hipped roof. The building has a rectangular plan and two levels, featuring a moulded eaves cornice that wraps around a central projecting pediment. The façade consists of three bays, with the central section under the pediment. The windows have segmental brick heads and stone sills, with the first floor blocked and mid-19th century casements on the ground floor. A central entrance is framed by a plain stone doorcase with a moulded entablature, leading to mid-20th century double doors with a rectangular overlight. There are blind round-headed stable arches with keystones and imposts on each side, with mid-19th century casements inserted. The pediment displays a richly carved coat-of-arms and features a rebuilt clock tower at the ridge, topped with a pyramidal slate roof and weathervane. The interior has been significantly altered and remodelled during the 20th century.
