Description
Brook Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with painted brick infill and has a machine tile roof. The building has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with an attic. The framing at the front has been partly replaced and features rectangular panels, two of which extend from the sill to the wall-plate, with vertical struts from the tie beam to the collar at the right gable end, and short straight tension braces. The windows are irregularly placed, with two late 20th-century casements on the ground floor and a 20th-century gabled eaves dormer above. The entrance is through a half-glazed 20th-century door on the left side, although the position of a former door can be seen in the framing at the rear. There is an integral red brick end stack to the left, with a steep-pitched early 19th-century gabled rubblestone and brick addition that is painted black and white to imitate a timber frame. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have a chamfered spine beam and heavy joists in the left-hand ground-floor room of the 17th-century part.
